INGUMA

Neoturf joins the European project INGUMA – Bio-Based Holistically Created Buildings, an initiative funded by the Horizon Europe program that aims to transform the construction sector through the development and adoption of bio-based materials. Running for four years (2024–2027), with a budget of approximately €5.8 million and the participation of 16 partners from nine European countries and Canada, INGUMA seeks to demonstrate that it is possible to build in a sustainable, innovative way, aligned with the values of the New European Bauhaus: sustainability, inclusion, and aesthetics.

The project focus is the development, testing, and validation of new bio-based construction materials that are fully recyclable and produced from renewable resources such as wood fibers, mycelium, agricultural residues, and natural adhesives. These materials are being applied in experimental buildings, including the “KUBIK” community house in Derio (Spain) and a test house in Savonlinna (Finland), which serve as living laboratories to assess real-life performance in terms of thermal comfort, durability, carbon footprint, and contributions to the circular economy.

Neoturf’s participation in this international consortium highlights its leading role in green infrastructure and nature-based solutions. The company contributes with specialized expertise in integrating these new materials into green roofs and walls, substrates, and innovative landscaping solutions adapted to the Portuguese climate. In addition, Neoturf is involved in co-creation and stakeholder engagement activities, helping to bring the project’s results closer to municipalities, architects, developers, and citizens.

The expected impacts of INGUMA are particularly relevant for the future of sustainable and resilient cities. By replacing conventional materials with bio-based solutions, the project will help reduce the carbon footprint of construction, improve air quality and thermal comfort in buildings, foster biodiversity, and create new models of circular economy. These advances will have direct effects not only on the construction sector but also on urban planning and citizens’ quality of life.

By taking part in this project, Neoturf strengthens its leadership position in Portugal and Europe as a pioneer in implementing innovative, sustainable solutions with a high positive impact. We believe that INGUMA’s results will be decisive in transforming the way we build and design our cities—making them greener, healthier, and better adapted to the climate challenges of the future.
